HUDSONS BISTRO

Brief: Hudsons bistro is a newly launched eatery in the Pantiles area of Tunbridge Wells.  A former cafe, the new owners wanted to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere with a contemporary, yet timeless appeal.  We needed to retain the existing flooring and as many features as possible, and as well as designing the interior scheme, we also sourced all furniture and style the finished space.  As the bistro was also being designed and launched during the pandemic, it was necessary to consider social distancing regulations for the layout.

The bistro needed a complete design and refit over 4 floors, including; ground, basement, private dining on the first floor and offices on the second floor.

Conclusion:   Initially we established which elements we wanted to keep and work with, which included the wood effect flooring and tongue and groove panelling.   From this, I was able to design a ‘contemporary vintage’ interior that used Farrow & Ball’s beautifully rich ‘Inchyra Blue’ – which worked well with the wood flooring, whilst also offering a warm and inviting atmosphere.  We added additional panelling in the back room, to lead the eye through the ground floor and the dark blue/green panelling was accentuated with burnt orange accents in the lights and seating and plenty of plant greenery.  Colourful artwork was selected to add interest and balance out the colour palette.

I replicated the theme in the basement seating area and then created a cosier more luxurious design for the upstairs private dining area (opening later this year).
